Day 2 Wednesday, June 22nd

"Hartman...do you know what are in those pancakes...there are cinnamon apples in those pancakes..."--Hannah (Whiteland Warrior)

The first day started out with an awesome breakfast and then on to their first class learning about dangerous marine organisms and corals. Later in the day, they had their first snorkeling experience at Hapuna Beach Cove. All went in and all came back...smiling. We were able to see plenty of humuhumunukunukuapuaas! The night ended with a bit of Hawaiiana. Their teacher Monica, and her two girls, are in charge of Hawaiiana this year. Monica did a great job teaching us an old Hawaiian chant last night along with some wonderful information about the history of the Hawaiian Islands both pre King Kamehameha and also the King Kamehameha line. Both of Monica's girls have grown up in immersion schools that focus on bringing back the Hawaiian culture and language. The night started out with Monica reciting in Hawaiian her ancestry going back 9 generations. After Hawaiiana, all the chaperones transported the kiddos into town so they could pick up any necessities. Pretty sure I saw a lot of mountain dew, cheetos, and the like going through those check out lines :)

The next set of pics above are from the our sunset dinner during the night of Day 1 and all of Day 2.

Aloha!
